Hair loss at a young age doesn't only affect the way we look, but also how we feel about ourselves. To fight this problem, knowing the reasons are important, which will either help as prevention or cure.

Why Young People Lose Hair

  • Hereditary hair loss, which is caused by a byproduct of testosterone, known as dihydrotestosterone, is one of the major reasons of hair loss in men.
  • Certain kinds of illnesses, and vitamin and minerals deficiencies for a long period of time is also one of the causes responsible.
  • Thyroid gland disorders are also known to cause the problem of hair loss.
  • Exposure to toxic substances and chemicals, side effects of certain medications to fight diseases, and cancer treatments such as chemotherapy or radiation therapy are also responsible.
  • Serious injuries and illnesses, a major surgery, emotional stress, very high fever, and in some cases severe bleeding, can be the reasons for falling hair.
  • Patchy hair loss can be caused due to scaling and itching in the scalp due to ringworm, which is basically caused by a fungus.
  • Alopecia areata is a disease which is known to cause hair loss.
  • Progressive miniaturization causes short growth cycles of hair, leading to hair loss.
  • Inheritance is a very strong factor in the process of balding in most men.
  • Drug consumption, lack of adequate nutrients in food, liver failure, excessive oiling, androgenetic alopecia, hormonal imbalance, lack of proper hair care, and improper styling are other causes that affect young individuals.
  • Hair loss due to childbirth is basically due to a fall in the estrogen levels in women.
  • Polycystic ovary syndrome, which is due to the excess production of the testosterone hormone, results into the loss of hair.
  • Fad diets and crash diets which do not contain all the essential supplements are also responsible for hair loss in women.
  • Deficiency of iron can also cause this problem.
As you can see, some cases of hair loss cannot be avoided due to their reasons, but others surely can.
