Eye bag removal surgery is done to remove any irregularity associated with eye lids. Read on to know more about it…
The eyes are no doubt the most conspicuous part of the face, and probably the most important sensory organ. Thus, we need to take extra care of them. Various eye problems develop with aging. So, how do we reverse them? Opt for an eye bag surgery.
More commonly known as blepharoplasty, this is a surgery where the surgical modification of the eye is done. Given below are details regarding this procedure.
Procedure
This is a surgical procedure wherein the excess fat present around the eyelids is removed. This can be done for the upper eyelid, the lower eyelid, or both. When it is done for the upper eyelid, an incision is made around one centimeter above the eyelash crease, and usually extends into the crow’s feet region. Then, the excess skin, along with the excess adipose tissue, is removed, and the area is sutured.
When it is done for the lower eyelid, the incision is made below the eyelashes and they are extended till the laughter lines or the crow’s feet. The skin is lifted, and any excess skin and/or fat is removed. The advantage of doing this procedure is that it allows the surgeon to even repair and contour the lower eyelid and the dark circles under eyes. This method is known as transconjunctival blepharoplasty and later on, touch ups can be given with the help of laser treatment or chemical peels.
Recovery
The recovery process after this surgery is a long-drawn affair, and many precautions need to be taken. Initially, for a period of around a week or so, the patient may experience pain and discomfort in the eye. There may even be swelling and bruising, all of which can be managed with the help of analgesics. To prevent the chances of an infection, you should apply an antibiotic ointment to the eye for a few days, so that the sutures do not get infected. You may not be able to sleep properly due to the mild eye discomfort, but this will slowly resolve in a few days. Protect your eyes from sunrays by either staying indoors or by wearing large sunglasses whenever you venture out. You can sleep in a slightly erect manner, with pillows propped below your head, to prevent edema.
Risks
There are quite a few risks involved with this procedure. There may be a slight amount of corneal friction, which may lead to a scratch on the surface of the eye, which can be dealt with eye drops. Other possible side effects of this procedure are that you may end up with dry eyes or there may even be formation of blood clots in the eye. There are chances of double vision and even blindness in very rare cases.
The cost of this surgery may come to anywhere between 3000 USD to 7000 USD. However, you need to keep in mind that you have to ensure that you take adequate eyelid surgery after care so as to minimize the chances of infection. Before you go in for this procedure, be sure to do your homework, like looking up some eye bag surgery before and after pictures. Initially, the eye bag surgery cost may be a slightly demotivating factor, but if you’re a candidate for this procedure, then the results could be excellent.
