Ground turkey serves as a great meat choice for paleo eating. It can even be used as a substitute in most ground beef dishes. Since many of us don’t have much time to spend in the kitchen preparing meals, here we present a few easy paleo ground turkey recipes to keep you on track with your paleo diet.
Paleo: The No-No Foods
Before we hop into the paleo ground turkey recipes, we feel like it would be a good idea to quickly review the no-no foods for the paleo diet.
Paleo eating focuses on foods that were eaten during the paleolithic era before modern farming began. That means you can eat no dairy, grains or legumes. Processed food and junk foods are off the list, as well.
Instead, fish, lean meats, eggs, seeds, nuts and fruit are encouraged. And since ground turkey is a lean meat, these recipes should serve you well!
Paleo Ground Turkey Recipes
As promised, these recipes are super easy. This will make it much quicker to meal plan and even pre-prepare meals for the week. We all need a few time savers in our lives!
Easy Paleo Taco Bowl
Ingredients
- Ground turkey
- ¼ cup chopped onion
- 1 packet of taco seasoning mix (make sure to check ingredients)
- 2/3 cup of water
- 1 tbsp. olive oil
- 1 small bag of riced cauliflower (prepare according to directions)
- Assorted toppings: avocado, green onion, tomato, salsa and lettuce
Directions
Heat a large skillet on medium heat. Add 1 tbsp. olive oil and onion and cook until soft. Add taco meat and cook until brown. Pour in 2/3 cup of water and taco seasoning. Mix and cook on low heat until thickened a bit.
Next, prepare the riced cauliflower according to package directions. Once meat and cauliflower are complete, you’re ready to assemble your taco bowl!
Combine meat, riced cauliflower and assorted toppings in your dish. Share (if you dare), eat and enjoy!
Paleo Ground Turkey Burgers
Ingredients
- 1 lb. ground turkey
- 1 tbsp. olive oil
- ¼ red onion, diced
- 2 minced garlic cloves
- ½ tsp salt
- ¾ tsp pepper
- One avocado
- Head of romaine lettuce leaves
Directions
Heat olive oil in skillet over medium heat. Cook onion until softened. Add in garlic and cook for one more minute. After the mixture has slightly cooled, transfer into a large bowl. Add ground turkey, salt and pepper and mix thoroughly. Use your hands to form approximately four burger patties.
Using a grill set to medium heat, cook burgers about 7 minutes on each side or until fully cooked. Slice burgers in half and place in a lettuce leaf. Top with avocado and condiments of your choice.
The final step? Chow down!
Keep in mind that you can purchase ground turkey in several forms of leanness. When following paleo, you should choose from the leaner options.
Paleo ground turkey recipes are widely available. Again, you can typically substitute ground turkey in most recipes that call for ground beef if you must. Just remember to pay attention to the other ingredients you use to be sure you stay paleo compliant.
