If you’re following the Whole30 eating plan, you are likely already making drastic adjustments to your diet. Whole30 is meant to reset your body as well as change your relationship with food. In order for this to happen effectively, the 30-day plan completely eliminates certain foods and ingredients for the set time period. So, are there any options for Whole30 deli meat that can be included in the approved foods? This article will shed a bit of light on the subject.
Foods to Avoid on Whole30
As a quick reminder, it’s a good idea to review which foods and ingredients should be avoided on Whole30. Here are a few that are not approved:
- Dairy
- Soy
- Carrageenan
- Sulfites
- Processed food
- Grains
- Added sugar
That said, you should carefully read the labels of anything you purchase to make sure none of these items listed are in your food.
Approved Whole30 Deli Meat
If you’re the type to enjoy an easy sandwich every now and then, you’ll be happy to know there are approved Whole30 deli meat choices. Of course, your sandwich form has to be altered a bit since you can’t eat bread. You can, however, substitute the bread for lettuce for a yummy lettuce wrap.
Let’s see which deli meat you can enjoy on Whole30.
Applegate Organics Pre-Sliced Deli Meats
Applegate answered the many requests for Whole30 approved pre-sliced deli meat. Their deli meat has no carrageenan and includes on clean, simple ingredients. As an added bonus, Applegate promises that all of their meat is ethically and humanely raised. Their organic deli meat options are:
- Black forest ham
- Herb turkey breast
- Oven roasted chicken and turkey breast
- Slow cooked ham
- Smoked chicken breast and turkey breast
- Roast beef
And if you decide you’d like to try more of their products, they also offer Whole30 compliant hot dogs, sausages and bacon.
Pederson’s Uncured No Sugar Bacon
There is actually a funny story about this bacon. Team members at Pederson’s wanted to try Whole30 themselves, but they didn’t want to give up the bacon. Thus, they created a bacon product that is Whole30 compliant so they didn’t have to go without one of their favorite foods!
You can thank them later. In the meantime, you can purchase the bacon at The Simple Grocer.
Uncured No Sugar Half Ham
This bone-in smoked and uncured ham from Pederson’s provides another deli meat option. Although you have to slice it yourself and the price is definitely heftier than a small package of deli meat, it’s a great option to have. You can even purchase this one for big family meals and still stay Whole30 compliant.
Applegate Grilled Chicken Breast Strips
Even though the grilled chicken breast strips aren’t technically a deli meat, they can still be enjoyed as such. Top them with avocado and tomato and wrap with lettuce and voila- you have yourself a perfect Whole30 meal.
If you ever question a food brand or choice, there’s a good chance you’ll be able to find an answer on the Whole30 website itself. Remember, in order for the plan to work, you have to fully commit. Even one setback means you have to start over. Make your Whole30 plan, and stick with it!
