No doubt, there is going to be a limited number of foods to eat after having the wisdom tooth extracted. However, it is recommended to follow the tips, so that there is no space for complications and also pain and swelling is minimized.
Foods to Eat After Wisdom Tooth Extraction
After any tooth extraction any soft food, which is neither too warm or too cold, is what one should eat. If the food is hot or cold, it may irritate the wound and healing process will take longer. The most commonly eaten food is no doubt ice creams. Often people use straws to drink liquid, however, this is a strict No-No, as the suction caused while drinking with the straw often causes the blood clot to be dislodged, which in turn will hamper the healing process. In some cases, it may cause dry socket.
Purée
Vegetable purée and mashed potatoes are among the foods to eat after wisdom tooth is pulled. You will have to ensure that the vegetables are well cooked, so that they do not cause any harm to the wound. Cook the vegetables and purée them, when they are slightly warm. The purée should be had in some time of making the purée itself. The vegetables that one can have include baked beans as well. Along with purée, one can also include soups in the diet, taking care that the soups are not very hot.
Milkshakes
The safest food to be had after tooth extraction are the milkshakes and smoothies. However, care should be taken that the milkshakes should not be very cold, lest it can irritate the wound. It is best to stick to milkshakes and smoothies from fruits, which do not have seeds, like banana, which can hurt the wound.
Yogurt
Yogurt is a rich source of vitamin C, therefore, it should be included in the diet after tooth extraction, as vitamin C helps in the healing process. It is best to whip the yogurt a little, before you can consume it. Make sure that the yogurt is not very cold or sour when you have it.
Jello
Jello is also one of the safest foods that one can have after tooth extraction. Since it is soft, there is no chance of it causing harm to the wound. However, the jello should not be had if it is very cold, to avoid the irritation.
Pudding
This is one of my most favorite foods, which I savor all the time. It makes for a great food to be had after tooth extraction as well. It is best to have pudding when it has cooled a little, but make sure there are no nuts in the pudding.
Soft Rice
Soft rice can also be eaten after tooth extraction. Care should be taken to ensure that the rice is well cooked and can be mashed with the hands as well, so that there is no problem, when one eats the rice. The rice can either be eaten with yogurt or milk or with some seasonings like salt, pepper, etc.
Cottage Cheese
It is soft and makes for perfect food to be had after tooth extraction. While eating cottage cheese, care should be taken that you do not chew from the side, where the wisdom tooth has been extracted. Also when you are chewing the food, make minimal of jaw movements to rest the healing jaw. The vegans can opt to have tofu in place of cottage cheese.
Fish
If you can’t do without eating non vegetarian food, then the best bet is fish. You can choose to have broiled, grilled, roasted or boiled fish. It is best to stick to fillets to ensure that the bones do not cause harm to the wound.
